Cape Cod Beach Rentals :: Cape Cod Beach House Rentals

Cape Cod has some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Cape Cod beaches vary from quiet Cape Cod Bay side beaches with calm cool water, to the warm gentle waves of the beaches on Nantucket Sound, to the wild and roaring surf of the beaches laying on Cape Cods eastern shore.

Some beaches offer all the amenities while others look much as they did when the Pilgrims landed here in 1620.

Cape Cod Beach Rental

Generally speaking, Cape Cod beaches on Nantucket Sound side in the towns of Barnstable (villages of Cotuit, Osterville, Centerville, Hyannisport, Hyannis specifically), Yarmouth (West and South Yarmouth) and Dennis (Dennisport and West Dennis) have the warmest waters. Nantucket Sound is fed by warm southern waters, and its relatively shallow depth of about 40 feet, sandbars that stretch as far as Nantucket, allows it to hold its warmth.

Cape Cod Bay beaches have the shallowest waters and tidal flats, and particularly suitable for very young children. The tidal flats of the Mid-Cape heat up the north-side waters as they ebb and flow over the sand, which has been baking in the sun. The best time to swim in these waters in when high tide occurs late in the day and the sun has all day to warm the sands.

Cape Cod beaches on Atlantic side of the Lower Cape are the coldest on the Cape but are among the most spectacularly beautiful. The Cape Cod National Seashore (CCNS), (508) 349-3785, has great beaches in Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown. Lower Cape beaches, as a rule, are relatively undeveloped; most have no real restroom facilities but usually have portable toilets.

Which beach is best for you depends on whether you're looking for a beach suitable for small children or looking to surf some big waves or something in between. Here are some great Cape Cod beaches with information to help make your visit to Cape Cod "A day at the beach".

Orrin Keyes Beach: located off Sea St. in Hyannis.

Kalmus Park Beach: As a windsurfing beach, Kalmus Beach at the end of Ocean Street in Hyannis is considered by some to be the best on the Cape. The steady breezes and warm waters of Nantucket Sound draw winsurfers from near and far.

Cape Cod Beach Rental - Loop Beach Loop Beach: on Ocean View Avenue in Cotuit

Sandy Neck Beach: Six-mile-long Sandy Neck Beach is located in both Sandwich and Barnstable and is the areas longest beach. Sandy Neck Beach is a beautiful beach with high sand dunes facing Cape Cod Bay. A limited area near the parking lot was recently re-sanded using sand dredged from the nearby Cape Cod Canal. Aside from that spot, there are many rocks mixed in with the sand along the high-tide zone further down the beach and on the ORV areas. We recommend planning your day around low tide as the flats offer a sandier area to sit in your chair or toss a football. Kids love to play in the many shallow pools that form here at low tide.

Many people enjoy taking a four-wheel-drive vehicle onto Sandy Neck Beach. This requires buying a permit through the Town of Barnstable. Your four-wheel-drive vehicle must undergo an inspection at the gatehouse for proper emergency equipment such as a tow rope, shovel, and spare tire. Sticker prices vary depending on the length of the permit and whether you are a resident of Sandwich or Barnstable. For four-wheel drive permits call Sandy Neck Administration or Sandy Neck Gatehouse.

The long beach also has walking trails along a salt marsh that offer glimpses of endangered toads, turtles, and other wildlife. This beach offers swimming, fishing, camping and hiking. Facilities include lifeguards, restrooms, outdoor showers, snack bar, wheelchair-accessible ramp, and special beach chairs.

Directions: The road that leads to the beach, Sandy Neck Road, actually connects with Mass. Rt. 6A just over the town line in East Sandwich. Sandy Neck Road then works its way north into West Barnstable before reaching the beach parking lot.

Sea Street Beach: Is a public beach located on Hyannis Harbor. Pack a lunch and eat in the picnic area.
Directions: Located at the end of Sea Street in Hyannis.

A large parking lot makes it easy to get a spot on most days. Lewis Bay, the outer section of Hyannis Harbor, is home to the Hyannis Yacht Club at one end of the beach. Beachgoers can admire the many yachts moored off the beach, and watch the small boat races that occur frequently during the summer.

Close to the Kennedy Compound, the Kennedy Memorial is adjacent to the beach.

The facilities include a bathhouse, snack bar, picnic area and playground, and lifeguards.

Bass Hole Beach (Gray's Beach) : The north side of Yarmouth on Cape Cod Bay is only about one and a half miles long and is largely marshland, save for a small beach at Bass Hole on the east end (also known as Gray's Beach). It is at the end of Centre Street off Mass. Rt. 6A in Yarmouthport and is considered by many to be one of the great spots on the Cape to watch the sun going down.

This Cape Cod beach beach offers an excellent view of coastal plant and marine life as well as nature's beauty. Across the river is Dennis' Chapin Beach.
